Process for Training Needs Assessments

Many organizations have an intuitive feel for the type of training employees need for current and future success. However, there are times when an organization wishes to survey employees about the training they need. Raidea provides a unique training needs survey that can be customized or delivered in a standard format to assess what employees and leaders want in three areas:

  • Specific job competencies
  • Interpersonal Relations
  • Technical and Computer-Related Training
  • Surveys that include specific job competencies are typically customized to suit the needs of the client.

The survey is unique since employees rate each item in relation to:

  • The degree the item is ‘important’ for success in their position
  • The degree they or team is ‘confident’ in the delivery of the skill or behaviour, and,
  • The general time-frame when the item should be provided if there is a gap between confidence level and importance level.

The results of the survey show the gap between the level of confidence and importance for a training item to be delivered and how soon it should be provided. In essence, groups of employees can be provided the highest priority training programs in the time-frame that is important to them.

Another unique aspect to the survey is that leaders within departments also do a rating of the employees for the importance and confidence level to compare whether they have the same view as their team. Wherever the views are similar, training should be prioritized and will likely meet little resistance. Whenever the supervisor places greater importance on training for an item than the team then the supervisor knows there is some ‘educational’ work to be done to sensitize people to the need and prioritize the item later.

Process for Public Workshops

For a variety of knowledge-based courses it is more effective and economical to attend a public workshop. For instance, everyone on a team may not need time-management training so it is more effective for individuals to attend our public training session. This does not mean that the training program is not available in-house though. The catalogue descriptions indicate which courses are available at regular intervals at public sessions.

In-House Workshops

The focus for Raidea is to provide organizations with training programs that everyone in the organization can learn. Therefore, each of the training programs in the catalogue are available as in-house sessions.

Customized Training Programs

Raidea specializes in creating customized course content. Frequently, the specific course outline does not meet the exact needs of the customer. Prior to any training program, a thorough understanding of the intent of the training is obtained. During the discussion about the intent of the program, our Raidea trainers and consultants will encourage the program be customized to meet the specific needs of the organization. This is welcomed and expected. Although this catalogue may appear as though each training program is very specific, the intent of the catalogue is to indicate the depth of topics available but by no means provide every program delivered.

For instance, we have a large list of standard safety programs but the catalogue does not provide the outline for training on ‘confined spaces’. Our experts have content for this topic and are completely comfortable to deliver it.

What this means is that even if the topic is not in the menu for each of the sections, the service providers of Raidea are likely capable of providing the training.
