When a road goes from point A to point B in the shortest manner with few stops then that route is considered efficient for the driver from a time point of view and use of resources such as the vehicle and gas. It is common though, to have a route that appears to take you in a ‘zigzag’ manner that may waste time and resources. Unfortunately when it comes to where roads are built, we do not have a lot of influence.
We can have a lot of influence on our work environment when processes and work methods are not as efficient in transforming materials from one state to another. The Brown Paper Method begins the process of mapping the AS IS state of a process and work method to transform them into the WILL BE state. This program helps participants understand what the method of mapping is, how to review a process, and the tools to change it into the most value added activity as possible. In essence, we are taking a road with a lot of curves and finding the means to straighten them.
