The Lean Daily Management System helps build commitment and awareness throughout an implementation of lean principles. It is the ‘backbone’ of the communication system for everyone. Front-line leaders have to be very skilled in the lean daily management system in order for the initial changes to be implemented successfully and for the changes to be sustained.
Course Content
- Review of the Four Components of the ‘Lean Daily Management System’
- Daily Work Group Shift Start-up Meeting – The importance of them and what should be covered in them (KPI, Housekeeping, Safety, Values,…)
- Work Group Primary Visual Display – Developing one for each area and the importance of the visual display for start-ups
- Kaizen Action Sheet and Responsibility Sheet – Improvement areas being worked on and specifically those targeted for the day/week
- 20 Keys for Improvement
- Meeting Effectiveness for Start-ups
- How to have effective meetings
- Roles played in the process
- Facilitation skills essential to start-ups
- Share lessons learned – role play 2 start-ups in small groups
- Review of Essential Operational Management
- Shift Start-up Scorecard – developing the meeting checklist for the first hour activities
- Shift Transition Scorecard – last hour activities for transition
- Essential KPI’s and Improvement Planning – Preparing for improvements

Program Follow-Up (Optional)
- Auditing leader effectiveness with the lean daily management system. The entire audit process includes reviewing the Start-up Meeting Checklist (Engaging people, use of visual display, prepared, KPI discussion…), Shift Start-up Scorecard, and a Shift Transition Scorecard.
- Leaders receive individual feedback about their use of the lean daily management system
- As many ‘audits’ as required are scheduled until the organization experiences improvement.

Length of Program
This is a full day program but is delivered over two half days to allow practice and learning between sessions.
